Cookham Medical Centre

Cookham Medical Centre, a five-GP surgery serving nearly 8,000 patients in Maidenhead, Berkshire realised the benefits of their flexible cloud-hosted telephone system during the coronavirus crisis and beyond.

Their issue:
Cookham had been using an old telephone system, which was no longer supported at manufacturer level and meant there was no guarantee of it being fixed if it failed. As Cookham was reaching the end of its lease, they sought advice on an upgrade.

The solution:
We recommended and deployed a cloud-hosted telephone system. As a 5* rated provider on the Practice Index directory, we have installed this solution for multiple GP surgeries as a cost-effective and efficient system to meet the challenging needs of the healthcare sector, which was put under immense strain during the coronavirus outbreak.

We were able to upgrade Cookham for a similar monthly costs to what they were previously paying for their old system lease, support, line rental and call costs. A cloud-hosted system is a subscription service therefore there is no need for capital investment, which suits current tight budgets with the NHS.

With the Horizon solution in place, Cookham could enjoy the extra call capacity which meant reception staff could handle more calls at the same time while GPs could still call out for telephone appointments - very useful during the coronavirus crisis.

They could use the automated attendant to give patients information about the coronavirus and dissuade them from visiting the surgery if they were displaying symptoms to prevent the spread of the disease. Other surgeries used their automated attendants to inform patients of temporary closures and telephone appointment-only services.
